Das Kollektiv „May_fly“ hat sich nach der Eintagsfliege benannt. Die kurze Lebensdauer des Insekts wird zum Ausgangspunkt für die Beschäftigung mit einer Entfremdung des Menschen von der Natur und, damit einhergehend, seinem eigenen Tod. Natur zu sein heißt auch vergänglich sein; Lebendigkeit heißt, das Leben verletzlich und fragil zu führen. Wenn die Zeit kommt, werden wir uns auflösen – „endlich“ werden wir wieder Teil der Natur. Ist dieser Moment zu fürchten oder zu ersehnen?

Die klangbasierte Performance „Antenne 2.0“ schafft durch Live-Modulation kinetischer Installationselemente und Kostüme einen symbiotischen Kreislauf. Die Bewegungsabläufe entstehen im Zusammenwirken aller Beteiligten als dezentraler „Cyber-Organismus“. Dem inhaltlichen Konzept liegt eine Recherche zum Thema des Sterbens inmitten einer in vielerlei Hinsicht bedrohten und ressourcenknappen Welt zugrunde, die in einem Austausch über persönliche Erfahrungen mündete. Das Prinzip des Teilens ist konstitutiv in allen Aspekten des Projekts.

Das in der Gruppe entwickelte Ritual – Metapher für den Kreislauf von Leben und Vergehen – stellt das Kommunizieren und Interagieren, untereinander sowie mit dem Tod und den fragileren Anteilen unseres Selbst, in den Mittelpunkt. Ängstigt uns tatsächlich das, was nach dem Tod eintritt und nicht von uns vorherzusehen ist? Oder fürchten wir den Gedanken, zu Lebzeiten so vieles nicht getan oder erreicht zu haben? Haben wir Angst nicht vor dem Tod, sondern vor dem Nicht-zu-leben?

The May_fly collective’s namesake is an insect whose short lifespan becomes the starting point for a preoccupation with our alienation from nature and, concomitantly, our own death. To be nature is also to be transient; to be alive is to live life with vulnerability and fragility. When the time comes, we will dissolve and become part of nature again. Is this moment to be feared or longed for?

The sound-based performance Antenne 2.0 creates a symbiotic cycle through the live modulation of kinetic installation elements and costumes. The movement sequences are created by the collaboration of all participants as a decentralized “cyber-organism.” The concept of the content is based on research into the topic of dying in the midst of a world that is endangered and lacking in resources in many respects, which led to an exchange about personal experiences. The principle of sharing is inherent in all aspects of the project.

The ritual developed in the group—a metaphor for the cycle of life and death—focuses on communicating and interacting, both with each other as well as with death and the more fragile parts of ourselves. Do we actually fear what occurs after death and what we cannot foresee? Or do we dread the thought of not having done or accomplished enough during our lifetimes? Are we afraid, not of death, but of not being alive?
